Young Toddlers

  • Ages 12 months to 24 months
  • 8 child capacity
  • Ratio: 1 teacher to every 4 children
  • Transitions occur as our staff and parents feel the child is emotionally and physically ready to make the move
  • Primary caregivers: children bond to one main teacher
  • Sleep on cots right in classroom
  • Children eat in classroom

Children in the Young Toddler room continue to learn and develop through play in the following areas:

Social - emotional: At this age children are focused on themselves. They will begin to recognize their reflection and will call themselves by name. They are beginning to learn their body parts and develop the ability for independent play as well as initiate play. They are focused on trying to figure out how things work!

Cognitive: Building vocabulary through stories and songs and teacher/child interactions. Developing problem solving skills through puzzles. Shape sorters and toys with “hidden items”.

Physical: Fine motor skills such as holding a paint brush, fork or spoon, grasping, throwing, stacking and picking up small items. Large motor skills such as walking, rolling and climbing.
